Research Interests
In analytical process, sample preparation is indispensable and it plays a crucial role for both qualitative and quantitative analysis. My research of interest is anchored on the use of set principles to reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture, and application of chemical products that is Green Chemistry. My area of interest is to develop greener extraction methods for selected organic compounds using supercritical fluid technology. Above critical point, compounds become supercritical fluids and exhibit dual characteristic. The supercritical fluids possess properties intermediate between gases and liquids. They diffuse as gases and dissolve like liquids hence becoming more efficient in extraction. More importantly, the extraction efficiency can be varied by adjusting the temperature and the pressure of the fluid. This makes them more selective. Another area of interest is to develop heavy metal decontamination method for water using functionalized polymeric ligands. Currently, there is ongoing research on the efficiency of removal of heavy metals in sewage treatment plant prior to the discharge of the effluent to water bodies.
